Michael R. Clarke, JD, CCEP, NACD.DC

Michael R. Clarke has over 35 years of legal and corporate risk management experience operating in the life sciences and healthcare sectors as a strategic advisory partner at the executive leadership level. After concluding his corporate career as Deputy General Counsel & Global Chief Compliance officer for a global medical technology company, he now provides advisory services to start-up and small cap life sciences companies. He has provided human capital management and commercial business risk mitigation support to business leaders and delivered focused strategic advice that enhances corporate culture and ethical decision-making, as well as supporting and encouraging a psychologically safe business environment leading to improved corporate results. In particular, Michael has created and managed a number of global ethics and compliance programs for life sciences and healthcare entities. He has educated employees and third parties on business ethics practices; managed third-party corruption, fraud and bribery risks; and conducted or overseen internal investigations and supported post-investigation corrective measures.

Previously, Michael practiced law for 14 years, most recently as a litigation partner with a large national law firm, as an associate with other firms and as an Assistant Deputy Public Defender in Essex County, New Jersey. He is a director certified by the National Association of Corporate Directors, serves on non-profit and private corporate boards, and is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional. Michael regularly speaks at legal and compliance industry conferences on employee relations issues, business risk mitigation, and creating and managing global ethics & compliance programs. He received his J.D. from Cornell Law School and his A.B. from Brown University.
